Colletes floralis - Achadh an Aonaich, Smiorasaraidh, Muideart
Observed: 2nd August 2011 By: Donnchadh
Added: 5th August 2011
Bees (assumed to be Colletes floralis) observed on isolated area of machair at Port Achadh an Aonaich, south of Smiorasaraidh, near Gleann Uige in Muideart. Two distinct groups in evidence, both on developing grassland on patches which had been eroded and recolonised by silverweed and other vegetation. Bees have been present since at least 2005 (see older photos) and are assumed to be a long-term feature of this rather isolated area of machair. Bees not so much in evidence on this occasion. On previous visits, large numbers of bees have been present on more extensive areas of the machair (making it difficult to walk on some parts).
