Caterpillar on Dark Mullein

I notice that your caterpillar is carrying the white eggs of a parasitic fly, a very common observation with these larvae. Remenham is very much in the heartland of the Striped Lychnis.

sorry ...

....I didn't get a chance to agree with your ID. I was busy trying to ID the Striped Lychnis and got sidetracked whilst doing so and then added my revision, only to see your ID there!

Thank you Anne and Mike, I'm sure you are correct even though the ID hasn't been acknowledged yet. How interesting to notice the parasites too!

It is disappointing that hardly anyone has taken a proper look at this caterpillar!

Striped Lychnis - aka wrongly as Mulllein

Yes, I was surprised too that so many people who I thought were more knowledgable than me were too quick to "agree" with this. I think this is one of the problems of trying to gain social/reputation points with iSPOT - i.e. get in there, agree/ID it, and then get browny points/stars. This system just DOES NOT WORK!
