purple pollen

This bee looks more like B. pascuorum again. The pollen looks like it has come from the scabious, which has this lovely pink-purple colour to its pollen (or at least the wild, blue scabious flowers do, wasn't aware that the white forms also have pink pollen).

Scabiosa ochraleuca

This pale yellow scabiosa (which gets paler with age) was a real attraction for bees and hoverflies last year, which was the first year I'd grown it. It's self-supporting, about a meter tall (so good for photographers) with masses of flowers and was still in flower in November. It's hardy and perennial - I think everyone interested in insects should have at least one in their garden!!!
