Large fly found in the vegetation at the edge of a woodland path.
No interactions present.
Hope to see these this coming weekend - as they are present on a site I'm visiting.
Hope you find them. They are really colourful and attractive flies. These photographs do not do justice to them.
They were common today, at my local, wooded heathland site, on Upright Hedge Parsley (Torilis japonica) along a flowery ride. Fantastic flies...the large males are striking beasts. Hope you see them!

If you have any records, with or without an observation on I-Spot, I would be grateful to have them for the Tachinid Recording Scheme.

Record as follows...
4 male/6 female (one female taken for checking)
Allerthorpe Common SE755475
On Torilis japonica at track edge, through coniferous plantation, at 11.00hrs
Record as follows:
Phasia hemiptera at Sunnyhill Woodlands, Clunton, Shropshire, VC40
Grid Ref: SO331838
Recorded by: Keith Fowler
Determined by: Nigel Jones
Date recorded: 24/07/2011
Found on pathside vegetation in a path through the woods. Sorry, I do not know what plant it was on.
I will be submitting this record to the Shropshire Recorder - do they then find their way to you?
I'm not sure who is the Shropshire Country Recorder, so I couldn't say. I much prefer records direct from the making the record, easier to manage. If they get to me by more than one route de-duplicating the database is not too hard.
Thanks for the records.
