Description:

Orchids seen at edge of pond in wetland. One had spotted leaves and could be Common Spotted?

Do you know if there is lime in the soil where this was taken, as it may help narrow it down.

My suggestions would be one of the Marsh Orchids, but I don't know which ones are present in County Durham.

Try; Southern Marsh Orchid, Northern Marsh Orchid and Western Marsh Orchid. Western Marsh has spotted leaves, is darker than common spotted, but needs lime.

Its apparently an area of neutral grassland so don't know if that's a high enough pH level for Marsh Orchid. Does Southern Marsh Orchid occur in the North East?
