Looks like a shrub of the rose family - a Prunus of some kind?
Yes this looks like a variety of Japanese cherry, possibly Prunus x subhirtilla, but this is only a best guess.
A shot of the bark might help with this, but may be difficult to get further than Prunus. I think may be too late for Prunus x subhirtella, which is winter flowering.
