Challenging

It is a bit difficult to work on this one without some idea of scale. However, I don't think it is a pug. The cross-lines on the wing are, with one exception, a bit faint, but I would suggest it is a Willow Beauty.

I think Willow Beauty might be a good guess too, but these can be difficult enough when you got them in the hand.

Seconded/thirded...

Without an idea of scale it's difficult to say much for certain, but the extent to which the hind wings project beyond the end of the abdomen suggest a Beauty rather than a Pug, as does what little can be seen of the antennae. The converging crosslines on the forewings would suggest Willow Beauty rather than the equally-common Mottled Beauty, where the crosslines tend to remain roughly parallel
