I would have thought that the leaves were those of Winter Heliotrope or a related plant. Certainly not Lesser Celandine, as they appear far too large in comparison to the Arum spike.

Thank you for this comment - you'e quite right of course: I had already misidentified Winter Heliotrope as Lesser Celandine (and been corrected on this) but forgot I'd also mentioned Lesser Celandine here. I'll now correct this (I hope that's allowed: i.e. correction of things after misidentifications!). Thanks once again.
