Sexing Whitethroats can be difficult! A typical male has a grey head, piercing orangey iris, pure white throat, white eye ring and grey lesser-coverts on the wing. Your first bird conforms to that. The second bird could be a female, but also could be a first summer male, as it has something of a grey head, something of a white eye ring...etc. It's best to go for obvious males, but leave anything else unsexed.
