Description:

Adult Whitethroats are well into their autumn moult. Some, like this male, are moulting tail and flight feathers to such a degree that it is a wonder they can fly at all. The primary flight feathers are moulted outwards from the middle of the wing. The new inner feathers are obviously darker and fresher than the bleached, worn outer feathers.
