I believe you have found the pelvic girdle of a (sea?) bird. Check out my posts for last year. I showed several photos of a very similar object and had it identified by another Ispot member.

I've done a little research on the back of your suggestion, I believe you're right. Thank you. In the aftermath of a storm, the beach we visited featured several recently expired gannets.
Mystery solved. As you say, there's a lot to learn.
Glad to help. When I first saw one of these I thought it was a skull. How silly did I feel? Rescued an oiled gannet once a long time ago. They can eat an awful lot of fish. Our local fishmonger loved us!
