If this is the village pond -

in Crowle, it is a lot wetter than when I was one of the volunteers clearing it out - and trying to work out why it was dry - back in the 1980s.

You must have done a wonderful job as it is positively alive with plants and animals, it has been a pleasure to study - especially on some of the sunny afternoons we have been having :)

Not really our work -

A local who had lived in the village all her life told us that one of the newer houses had been built over the inlet stream - she remembered playing "pooh-sticks" in the culvert. They had to find some way of providing an alternative source for it.

Did it smell of mint?

We have water mint in our garden pond, and it is beginning to take over, but its scent is lovely.

I didnt manage to get close

I didnt manage to get close enough to smell it today Carole, but I will have a good try on my next visit this week. Thanks for the tip :)
