Unidentified gloop

This "gloop" appeared on the lawn in my garden. I have no idea what it is or how it got there and nothing like it has appeared here before.

It's been identified -

As "dog vomit slime mould" or "scrambled eggs slime mould".
Not really fungi - they are single-celled creatures that come together like this to form a sporing body. In some parts of the world, they are collected for food. The name of one - "moon dung" - suggests that they aren't a culinary delight.
