Description:

These plants vary a lot. Some look like Greater knapweed and the others differ in that the petals are shorter and the buds are darker. We may have two different clumps. The fourth photo is another clump about 15 feet away that all have non-divided leaves.
They are on a limestone/clay mix.

In Common knapweed the bracts

In Common knapweed the bracts that make up the ‘hard head’ are pale brown with black/brown bristly edges. However the degree of overlap obscures most of the pale brown. In Greater knapweed these bracts are grey-green with black/brown bristly edges but, because there is less overlapping, much of the bract is still visible. I think photos 1 - 3 are of Greater Knapweed but photo 4 is Common Knapweed
