Description:

This insect was photographed by my sister a while back. The remarkable thing about it was it's size, in her words, "it was big!". It settled on a plant that is native to S.Africa I believe and spent some time visiting each blossom. She thought it was a bee, to me it looks more like a hover fly. Can anyone identify it? From her description it must have been 30mm in length.
