British Wildlife, this species is suffering a serious decline in the UK. There is a recently-arrived, northward-spreading parasitic fly (Sturmia bella) that is implicated in the decline, but the research so far hasn't been conclusive.
Funny, I was wondering why it was one of the species being recorded in the Opal Survey. That would explain it.
In the park near to where i live there are plenty of them. I counted at least 7 on one plant. Unfortunately they wouldn't stay in one place long enough for me to take a photo.
