Worm on bottom of wooden boats

These worms, mainly red but the juvenilles appear to be more white, are currently enjoying life on the bottom of wooden boats in freshwater on Fairlop Waters. They seem to tunnel into the wood, and are only present under the waterline. Approx size is 1.5cm for a larger specimen.
The body seems to be made up of wide rings, almost armour like.
