Thanks. That makes so much sense. I have seen a few P. purpuralis recently and when I was photographing this one I assumed it was a faded specimen of that (or P. aurata). I was quite surprised when I looked at the photo (now very heavily cropped) and saw the markings didn't match. Before adding here I spent about 40mins searching ukmoths.org.uk but didn't think to look at the other Pyrausta sp!!
