Without knowing whether it had got gills or pores it makes life difficult to offer any suggestions.
I'd go for a Leccinium possibly L. versipelle in that area. However as flaxton says we really need to know if it has gills or pores and to have a look at the stem before making any judgement. There may well be more coming up in that area if you get the chance to go back again.
