Brownish bracket fungus

Brown bracket fungus found in Knocksink Wood near Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, Dublin. Found near the purple fungus that I just submitted.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

when you zoom in on some of

when you zoom in on some of your photos there are lots of digital artifacts - the image breaks up into pieces rather than showing all the detail that is needed to make the best identification. Possibly there is nothing you can do about this but on some cameras there are settings to reduce this effect and produce a clearer image. Unfortunately there are so many different digital cameras I can't give advice on exactly how to do this but perhaps check the manual to see if there are any suggestions there.

Thanks Miked. It's only a snap from a 5 megapixel camera phone I'm afraid. I know it's very tricky identifying fungus as they can look very different at different stages of their lifecycle and under different conditions, so a not-so-great photo can't help! Thanks for the ID.
