Looking at the full size image, there appears to be a small light blue marking on each of the legs.

not Ichneumon

definitely not the genus Ichneumon which does not have an exserted ovipositor.

I'm still trying to get my head around Zoological nomenclature. I guess I was trying to refer to the family (now having looked it up) rather than the sub-family. Thanks for the information, very useful to know how to separate the sub-family groups.

Hi John

standard name endings in Zoology in order of decreasing rank:

-oidea superfamily
-idae family
-inae subfamily
-ini tribe
-ina subtribe

Genera, subgenera, species and subspecies have no standard endings.

Hope that helps
