Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum

Just an aside. A congener M. crystallinum another winter growing southwest African annual succulent has leaves so covered in sparkling water filled cells (idiobasts) that they are called iceplants.
That common name has been extended in popular usage to other Aizoaceae (mesembs) even though they have no idioblasts at all. However, extending the use of the word "iceplants" beyond mesembs is really stretching its usefulness.
