Ancient Oak Tree observed in Darrick Wood, Orpington. Ancient Oaks are less common in Darrick Wood than in Newstead Wood (see other observations). Using the method suggested on www.stuffynwood.com of girth divided by 1.25cm, this tree is approx. 256 years old. I observed green algae and moss. There was also ivy growing up it and grey/green crustose lichen. Deadwood was present in Crow and on the ground and holes were present in the stem. The height of the tree was approximately 18m.
