Hoverfly - Volucella bombylans

This is the first time I've seen the 'typical' red-tailed form of this large hoverfly, which mimics the Red-tailed Bumblebee. The second photo shows the conically elongated face typical of the genus. In my area the subspecies 'plumata' seems much more common than this typical form.
