deep bottle blowing hoo of a male - repeated 7 or 8 times in a row - quite deliberate and distinct. There are captive Longeareds in the area but none close enough for me to hear from the bedroom...

not till last year - when we

not till last year - when we had several males and a female calling made the previous two years worthwhile - this year we are trying recall - waiting to do the "training" on that. good job it is a recorded call as I can't hoot for toffee!

I've only heard this once - back in the early '70's in central Wales where I was camping with me Dad. Quite an eery sound I seem to remember.

Of all the UK owls - the little owl in full call takes the eery stakes - heard it in the 80s in the Midlands and it took me 20 years to get into owls and discover what I'd heard.
