Mole (Talpa europaea) found dead on earth pile near farm barn; 17cm from tip of nose to tip of tail. Unsure if the hole in the background belonged to the mole.

I agree the dry weather means the worms go deep, often out of the mole's reach. This mole looks thin and in poor condition, I suspect it may have starved to death; poor thing.

Thank you for the information. I don't know much about moles other than we usually have a lot of mole activity and a lot less recently. They are a bit of a pest making molehills in the lawn and fields but I would not wish to kill them.
