Yes, this photo was taken on the fringes of woodland and moorland.
I wonder if it was just trying to keep more of an eye on me from the rock. When I first saw it, it was in the grass beside a brook. Only when I approached with my camera to try and get a closer shot did it retreat to the rock.
Squirrels get most of their moisture from their food, dew and collected water in tree hollows etc. However, with the weather being so dry may be it has taken to drinking from the stream?
