Red insect egg case?

Observed: 8th June 2011 By: LaFlafster
Red insect egg case
Description:

Hi, This is a dark red insect egg case we've found on the top layer of soil in a part of the garden beneath a sycamore tree. Probably more pertinently, this is the area of the garden where we recently buried our cat 3' down. Any idea what these are, are they harmful and do we need to do anything about them?

Thank you! I'd hoped it was

Thank you! I'd hoped it was something similar. Do they take a long time to hatch out normally, or am I likely to be seeing fresh ones appearing?

Time to hatch

Usually these hatch pretty quickly. Keep in a cool, not too dry place. Sometimes these are attacked by parasitoid wasps, so you may get these instead of a fly. Good luck!
