Idas Blue in Bulgaria

Whereas I would normally agree that Idas is a mountain species, I saw it several times on the Black Sea coast. It did not appear at low levels otherwise and was seen only twice at altitude.

Idas Blue

Interesting. According to Abadjiev's " An Atlas of the Distribution of the Butterflies in Bulgaria" the Idas Blue is confined to mountains in S.W.Bulgaria. Another point to bear in mind is that the males of Bulgarian Idas have unusually broad dark borders to the uppersides, so that they superficially resemble the Silver-studded Blue, rather than Reverdin's Blue. I wonder why you are so certain the butterflies you saw on the Black Sea coast were Idas? Check out: www.butterfliesofbulgaria.com/pleida.html
