Clerus mutillarius 1
Description:

Four of these insects were found around the balcony of our hotel on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. I thought they could be a species of velvet ant but now I'm thinking maybe a beetle. Anyone able to help with an ID. Thanks.

Disagree

This is a clerid that is a mimic of a velvet-ant (Mutillidae), similar to those we have in Africa.
