Description:

Found 8 foot up a tree in my garden. Very lightweight, with hexagonal cells. Nobody at home! Originally wrapped around for protection with a sort of silvery grey scarf.

Silver Grey

If the surrounding envelope of paper was silvery-grey, it will not be a hornet nest as these are always beige-brown. Much more likely is Dolichovespula media, our second largest social wasp. Hornets nest in cavities, and never suspend the nest from a bough of a tree or bush
