Pink spiked plant ?without chlorophyll plentiful in chalk on top of down

I know the butterfly is a Small Copper: what I am interested in this time is the pink plant at the foot of the picture.
Would be good to be able to see the leaves,and clearer shot if the flower for correct ID,as for the butterfly LordMuzzy was only trying to help as you had not put Small Copper on unknown plant,as some people will id other thing's in the picture,myself included at doing this.
As this is on our area all I can add is that because of continued drought an awful lot of plants are showing stress & can look like this in colour.
Apologies: I hadn't really thought in terms of id of the plant when I took the picture. There were quantities of stuff like this around, which didn't really seem to have identifiable leaves as such. Couldn't be emerging heat-stressed shoots of Erica, could it?
