Forgot to say!

Has an old synonym which is Tibouchina
semidecandra. Have seen this in the Azores where it has been frequently planted, to the extent that it has become something of a noxious species, also widely grown in Madeira.
The foliage is very distinctive and beautiful as well!

Hi David Thank you for

Hi David
Thank you for identifying this beautiful plant and providing me with interesting facts about it. I saw it at Longleat Safari Park and could not see an ID board, guess they have worked hard at conservation considering its specific preferences! Thanks again
