Amphipods are difficult

UK marine amphipods are highly diverse and its very difficult to make a positive ID of one from a picture as the anatomical details that you need to be able to see are very small. Even with a microscope, many people have difficulty even identifying to the family level.

There are keys available, the best of which is the family key at but in order to use it a lot of complex terminology has to be sorted out and the animal needs to be dissected on a microscope slide.

For UK marine species there is an amphipod key in Hayward and Ryland but it is far from complete covering only the more common species.
