Larch

You need the current year's twig colour bearing in mind the possibility of Hybrid Larch. European Larch twigs are straw-coloured like dead grass stems. Japanese larch twigs are orange brown. Look also for cones. European Larch cones have their scales pressed hard to the cone whereas Japanese Larch cone scales are reflexed, that is the scale tip turns away from the cone.
