Description:

first saw this bird emerging from its nest hole three weeks ago, for the last week i have been watching them take food in and take fecal sacs out, i was away on friday and today there is no sign of them, there are a lot of jays about and i also saw a greater spotted wood pecker killing a small bird at the top of the tree on tuesday (incidentaly i saw two dead jay chicks on the lawn could this have been a woodpecker?)could the chicks have fledged and left the tree in a day? they would have to fly at least twenty foot to get to another tree.

Yes they could all leave the nest in a day, and time scale seems about right. Woodpeckers are big killers of young nestlings but tend to eat them at the nest.
