I didn't think this species was on the UK list?
Just looked on the NBN and they have got D.hyalipennis as a synonym of Dioctria baumhaueri Meigen, 1820 (which seems quite widespread in the UK). Just when I was getting excited that my robberfly was going to be a first for the UK!
This discussion has not ended in the UK, a tertiary debate? : )The impression I get is that your specimens in the uk tend to have these broad dark stripes on their middle and front femora more often than not. On the continent there seems to be much more variety. So this one seems to me the hyalipennis "variety" which is rare.
