Mole at side of road - probably not at all well, as it made little effort to move away from humans or to hide away.

No doubting this is a mole with that lovely, sleek, black fur. I would not be so quick to right it off, above ground moles are as out of their depth as we humans would be burrowing underground. I've seen moles freeze when above ground and frightened. The fur looks to be in good condition also.
