This is a very common plant growing in profusion this spring. I don't know the name and can't find it on wild flower identification sites.

Species with which Hedge Garlic (Alliaria petiolata) interacts

anonymous spotter's picture

Variously known -

as Garlic Mustard, Jack-by-the-Hedge ("Jack" meaning "jacques", an old Napoleonic-Wars period term for a latrine), and others.
When young, the leaves make a pungent mint-type sauce, or (as I learnt here) a type of pesto.

Hedge Garlic

Many thanks - I'm pretty sure you are right, having looked at other images of hedge garlic.
I didn't realise you could eat it - in pesto.
What a great website!
