You weren't far off with "white-headed moth"! This is a very widespread species, usually breeding inside buildings on various animal or plant remains, including "stored cereals and grain, rotten wood and paper, dead insects, general refuse, and detritus in birds' nests" (Moths and Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland).
