Orange Algae

I too have observed this rust-like algal growth on numerous immature oaks in Swinley Forest (quite near Wildmoor Heath), and they appeared to be dead. Could this be connected to Trentepohlia infection?

Most unlikely I would have thought. Algae are not usually pathogens.
