There were three of these, plus a fawn in the marshy area close to where I live. They were a long way away so the original photographs have been cropped to show as much of the deer as possible. There is a herd nearby, some of which occasionally visit the garden via the marshy area.

It is probably a fallow deer, however, you do have sika in Essex and some sika sub-species have black lines down the tail. The tail length is not a definitive distinguishing feature. That said, the tail and long, delicate neck and relatively small head does point to fallow.

Many thanks for your identification. I think, unless I see Fallow and Sika side-by-side, I am unlikely to be able to tell them apart.
