Rearing

If you keep this in a cool dry place, the wasp should hatch out, and you will find what made the cocoon, and a more precise identification should be possible.

Thanks, might try to go back to see if i can find it again as it was right by the path. infact the georeference for it is accurate to within a couple of metres looking at the google earth image. so someone else might beat me to it!
