Pollution

Thanks Alan.

It appears that Dublin city is a major source of anthropogenic nitrogen pollution. Many of our shrubs, trees and all the rooftops are covered with this lichen. (Before studying lichens with the Open university I thought the yellow on the rooftops was crow droppings!)

So while a lack of fruticose lichens is a barometer of air quality, it appears that so is an abundance of Xanthoria sp.
