Description:

This is the third unidentified (to me) flying object at Sandhouse Lane yesterday in the grassy areas. This one was in the grassy area away the pond and has distinctive antennae and a pale abdomen, and also doesn't seem to match anything in Chinery.

I'd say

it was one of the cuckoo bees (Nomada species) - but not certain.

Revision - happy to be wrong on this one - very interesting find!

Your guess

was a whole lot better than mine could ever have been so I think we'll let you off ;-)

As this is a scarce species

is there somewhere I should report my sighting? I've checked the Bedfordshire Natural History Society reporting system and they don't have one for flies.
Thanks
