flocking?

Do wood pigeons form flocks in winter? I disturbed a group of at least 15 when walking on Sunday. In summer you only seem to see them singly or in pairs.

flocking

They do form flocks almost all year round. I am guessing, many of these will not have a territory. You will regularly see large numbers feeding on the grass in fields. Some woodpigeons are also migratory, groups of 1000s have been observed.
