Scorpion fly, I was led to believe there are many types so don't know which one.Think this may be a male?

Spot on with male Panorpa, for a firm ID you need to see the rear face of the genital capsule, which is just over the hill on your photos. Nice photos though.

Yes, I think so too. You can just make out the callipers/hypovalves starting to curve back toward the centre.
If you want to pop the ID on I'll agree to it.
