Martial Eagle?

I don’t believe this to be a Martial Eagle. P. bellicosus is Africa’s largest eagle (Raptors of the World Ferguson-Lees & Christie, Helm, 2001) and though I accept scale is hard to tell from this image the bird doesn’t impose itself in the way I would expect a Martial to do. Perhaps more convincingly there is too much bare leg and the beak seems a bit dainty (though that could be the angle).

Ray, I think that you are

Ray, I think that you are right. I must admit that my ID was based on overhearing someone else talking about the bird, which was quite a distance away. I have now checked "Roberts Bird Guide" Hugh Chittenden, 2009 and am almost certain that tghis is the Black-chested Snake-Eagle, Circateus pectoralis.

Confusion species

Ferguson-Lees & Christie cite C. pectoralis as the only likely confusion species.

Yes far to dainty for martial eagle.
