Along time ago now David , would estimate 10-12 mm ,think its some kind of Blowfly myself ,lots of them on site with chequered backs , this was December so I was surprised to see it .

over-wintering

Calliphora vicina adults are quite often seen on milder winter days, but apparently it is not known what proportion of these are over-wintering as adults, and how many are newly emerged from over-wintering pupae.
