Big black fly ,several of which were observed basking in sunshine today
No interactions present.
Possibly in family Calliphoridae? But not sure. Do you have any photos showing more of the wing venation?

Along time ago now David , would estimate 10-12 mm ,think its some kind of Blowfly myself ,lots of them on site with chequered backs , this was December so I was surprised to see it .
Calliphora vicina adults are quite often seen on milder winter days, but apparently it is not known what proportion of these are over-wintering as adults, and how many are newly emerged from over-wintering pupae.
