Metallic blue/green beetle found on the ground. I have been unable to find a possible match in Chinery or the web.

I don't have a species name but it's a click beetle, family Elateridae, that may help you refine your search. Cheers!

Look's like Ctenicera cuprea say's that it exhibit's two colour form's,one of which is metallic in field guide to insects by Bob Gibbons and Collins guide.

I think you are spot on with C.cuprea ,I have seen green and burgundy colour variations .

Thank you for your suggestions. Looking at pictures of this beetle on the web it has dark legs. The one I photographed had pale legs - the nearest match I have been able to find, bearing in mind the other suggestions, is Selatosomus aeneus. What do you think?

Selatosomus aeneus is most likely species

Also S. amplicollis comes to my mind, but I dont'know if it occurs in the UK.

I have had a look on web and I would agree on S.aeneus as the correct ID,as everything fit's from your observation.
